Western Region Health And Osteopathy– Caring For Infants, Toddlers And Children
Dr Eressea Cross-Supervising Clinician-B.App.Sc(CompMed) MOsteo
At Western Region Health, we have a team of osteopaths with the clinical experience and specialized education required for the treatment and management of infants. Our clinic owner and director Dr Jade Scott (Osteopath) has been passionate about the care of infants and children and has been supporting the Melton and Bacchus Marsh community for over 23 years. Our current clinical supervisor, Dr Eressea Cross (Osteopath), has 15 years of experience working with infants and children and has completed the Graduate Diploma in Child Health through Western Sydney University. Jade and Eressea oversee our internal pediatric program at WRH, where all practitioners are required to gain at least two years of supervised experience in observation, assessment, and treatment before consulting with infants.
Our clinic policy ensures that no joint manipulation or thrust techniques are used on children under the age of 12. We aim to keep treatment as gentle and relaxing as possible for babies, utilizing soft tissue massage, stretching, and gentle joint articulation techniques to achieve the best outcomes for the infants in our care.
We specifically address musculoskeletal restrictions associated with conditions such as plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, traumatic birth, torticollis, tongue and lip tie, feeding, settling, sleep issues, hip dysplasia, and talipes.
We also follow infants and support their parents through the major milestones of their first few years. We assess musculoskeletal function, passive and active movements of the child, and give parents exercises and activities to do at home that will help improve coordination and strength so they can reach each milestone smoothly. We recommend check-ups at the following ages:
- Rolling: 3 months
- Feeding: 5 months
- Sitting: 7 months
- Crawling: 9 months
- Standing and walking on furniture: 11 months
- Walking: 12 and 18 months
- Running: 2 years
- Posture and musculoskeletal development 6 monthly from 2 years of age
