THE EVOLT 360 SCANNER
Dr Brendan Ashman-OSTEOPATH-B.Sci (Clin Sci), MHS (Osteopathy)
Please welcome the newest product to the Western Region Health and Osteopathy clinic, the Evolt 360 scanner!
What is the Evolt 360 scanner?
The 360 Evolt scanner is a body composition scanner that provides you with more than 40 detailed measurements to help you track your progress. It does this by passing a safe, low intensity electrical current through your hands and feet. The current works by determining the difference between muscle mass, fat mass, water and minerals, making it far more superior than the generic BMI measurement, which we know is out dated and does not take into consideration incredibly important factors for individual measurements. All readings are specific to an individual, allowing trainers and clients to better track their progress.
The scan takes just 60 seconds, is non-invasive, and you only need to remove your shoes and socks.
We would recommend that patients who are wanting to get scanned download the Evolt active App which they can then assess and view their results from their phone, making it more accessible to our patients. There will also be an option for patients to receive a printed copy of their results.
What the Evolt 360 can do?
- Measure differences from side to side.
- Lean body mass and fat mass including visceral and sub-cutaneous.
- Measure skeletal muscle and bone mineral weight.
- Provide nutritional suggestions for personal goal (weight gain and weight loss).
- Possible supplementation ideas.
Nutritional Suggestions
When talking to our patients, we often hear that staying on track with food, or not knowing how much of foods to eat is the biggest problem. We know from the science that the best way to lose weight is through a calorie deficit (expending more calories than we eat), and the best way to put on weight or gain muscle is to be in a calorie surplus (eating more calories than we use). The amazing thing about the Evolt 360 is that it is able to give users a baseline reading based on their basal metabolic rate (BMR), which is the amount of energy a person uses when they are at rest and their total energy expenditure (TEE), which is the total amount of energy a person uses in a day. The macro-nutrient profile is based on a person’s body type, their activity type and their goals. The profile includes how much protein, carbohydrates and fats a client should be ingesting. The profile is a guideline for clients, who want to track calorie in-take to reach their personal goals. You should always discuss the outcomes with a professional such as a nutritionist or dietitian, along with any supplement recommendations.
Best scanning practice: To achieve consistent scanning results, there are a few steps that should be followed:
- Try and scan at the same time each scan.
- Fasted scanning.
- Preferably do not scan after training.
- Keep your hydration and food volume the same.
- No fast food/ high carbohydrate food the day before.
- Do not consume alcohol within 24-48 hours of scanning.
- Try not to consume caffeine pre-workout before scanning.
- It is recommended that patients get scanned every 4 weeks to track their progress.
Who should get an Evolt scan?
Anyone who is interested in knowing and wanting to understand a detailed breakdown of what they are made up of should be scanned. It is a great way to stay accountable, track your progress and stay on track with your goals. You do not have to be a body builder or even a gym junkie to get scanned.
We recommend that you do not get scanned if you are pregnant or have a pacemaker, due to the use of the electrical pulse to gain measurements. Even if you have significant metal implants, the scan is safe. However, results will vary due to the way measurements are gained. If you do have any implants, it is important to remember that the objects will be interpreted as body fat tissue.
